Robin Benger and Christopher Sumpton teamed up
in 1997 to produce "In Security" for the CBC, which then led to
"Eastside Showdown" for the NFB. Cogent/Benger Productions was formed
in 1999 to continue in the same vein, producing relevant, creative
documentaries on important issues. C/BP's programs have been seen
on Canadian networks, such as CBC, CTV, Vision, Bravo! and Discovery, as well as
internationally.
Robin Benger
Robin
Benger is a producer/director/writer/narrator of television documentaries.
Born in England, raised in South Africa, he's been working in Canadian
journalism and documentary filmmaking since 1976.
"Individuality, unpredictability, relevance, rich characters
and a
strong instinct for narrative are the qualities we aim for in
Cogent/Benger documentaries.
One
rule we have is, if we wouldn't watch it, we ain't gonna make it.
Another rule is, whenever possible, stop and smell the flowers."
Christopher A. Sumpton
Christopher
Sumpton produces, directs and edits television documentaries. Born
in Vancouver, he bucked the flow and went east to Toronto while
searching for a career. He moved into
the wonderful world of television at the CBC in 1977, where he discovered
editing and a love of documentaries.
"In making documentaries you simultaneously explore the world and yourself. That's endlessly fascinating." Sumpton also notes that Cogent/Benger Productions
is about "bucking the flow".
